Our History

Morris Mickelson opened Mickelson Body Shop in 1948. Morris first rented a small shop where the Hawley Post Office is currently located.

In 1949, Morris built and moved into the current 2,500 square foot building. Through the years, the building was expanded to its present 5,000 square feet space to accommodate a paint room and a wheel alignment area. For a while, Morris also included the sale of Agsco seed, fertilizer and spray equipment.

Morris and his team, including long-timers Gordon Sanders, Pete Teigen, and Mark Handegaard worked hard to keep up with the trends and standards of an ever-changing automotive industry.

In 1993 Dwight Mickelson took over operation of the shop. Experienced technicians, Pete Teigen(who came on the job the week Dwight was born) and Mark Handegaard helped make it smooth transition. Dwight can recall wearing an old paint mask while watching his dad paint when he was four years old. Dwight currently operates Mickelson Design Studio in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he creates functional art.

Joy and Josh Becker, Owners

In 2005, Dwight turned over the ownership and operation of Mickelson Body Shop to one of his technicians, Josh Becker. Josh and his wife Joy continue to maintain the family-owned, community-minded business with the same standards of integrity set by the Mickelson’s. We bring a love of classic cars and a watchful eye on the new trends in automobiles to the mix. With our experienced technicians, Mickelson Body Shop continues to be your locally owned and operated full-service body shop, handling all of your collision repair and refinishing needs, as well as glass work, painting and insurance related claims.
